Painting Background

Phoenix thru Flame

Vincent Ward gained an honors degree  from Ilam School of Fine Arts, University of Canturbury, New Zealand. It was through painting that he initially found his way into filmmaking.  He worked with animation as a student and then developed an interest in moving images and visual story telling.

He has since managed to keep his hand in painting by doing sketches and paintings for pre-visualisation and initial conceptual work on his films. In the making of What Dreams May Come he was able to fully utilize his fine arts background – coming up with visual concepts, building an aesthetic for motion painting and with his team he encouraged the growth of a new technical approach to this field.

Wards current work includes motion painting moving image installations, large format oil on canvas works and smaller studies.

At the moment he is working towards a 2011 exhibition of his art work at a leading public art gallery in New Zealand. Exhibitions in the US and Paris are also in discussion.
