Synopsis

Vincent Ward uses breathtaking imagery and honest reflection to trace his film-making  journey from a remote Maori community, to the Arctic and on to Los Angeles.

In this book we  meet the people he has encountered along the way, from Kiefer Sutherland and Robin Williams – to those  he has worked closely with at grass roots level.

This is more than your usual coffee table book, Part memoir and part image gallery ‘The Past Awaits’  has a haunting quality that stays with you long after you put it down.  As you go with Ward on what he  calls “ the search to stay whole through making films,” you get  an intimate insight into the many worlds created by this most imaginative of film-makers.  Ward says the book is about “being inspired by the people I work with and make films about, those who offer me a touchstone to living. These pictures are about people; by seeing into the lives of some of these people I see more clearly into my own.”
